About the consortium

Joining forces to accelerate hydrogen development

The Baltic Sea Hydrogen Collector (BHC) is a ground-breaking cross-border project that will secure the supply of green hydrogen in the Nordics and Central Europe. The project is developed by a group of leading infrastructure and energy industry companies, consisting of Gasgrid Finland, Gascade, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, who have joined forces to create an infrastructure for green hydrogen collection and transportation.

CIP

Founded in 2012, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners P/S (CIP) is a global fund manager and leading investor in energy infrastructure. CIP builds value that matters by developing and constructing critical infrastructure projects that shape the future of energy.

Through its funds, CIP invests in power generation (solar and wind), energy storage, transmission and distribution, advanced bioenergy, low-carbon fuels and carbon capture.

With 15 funds currently under management, CIP is trusted by over 200 of the world’s largest and most sophisticated institutions, having raised EUR ~37 billion to date. CIP has projects in more than 30 countries, with presence on the ground through a network of +2,300 professionals.

Gascade

GASCADE is an independent transmission system operator. We have been organised for more than ten years as an independent, fully regulated transmission system operator on the basis of the German Energy Industry Act, and are certified by the German Federal Network Agency. As early as 2025, we want to transport large quantities of hydrogen from its production sites to the consumer centres in Germany and to our European neighbours. Together with our partners, we are working intensively on the hydrogen market ramp-up. We are contributing our expertise in developing and expanding the hydrogen core network.

Gasgrid Finland

Gasgrid Finland Oy is a Finnish state-owned company and transmission system operator with system responsibility. We offer our customers safe, reliable and cost-efficient transmission of gases. We actively develop our transmission platform, services and the gas market in a customer-oriented manner to promote the carbon-neutral energy system of the future. Gasgrid Finland has been tasked by the Finnish Government to develop national hydrogen infrastructure, cross-border infrastructure collaboration and hydrogen market in the Baltic Sea region and has therefore established an affiliate.

Future expansion of BHC pipeline system
The initial focus for BHC is on the main trunk line between Finland and Germany, but the pipeline system is designed to expand over time. Future branch-lines may connect to Sweden, Bornholm, Poland, and the Baltic States, depending on market developments and infrastructure readiness.
To support this long-term vision, the BHC partners have established a collaboration structure to coordinate future extensions. Nordion Energi is currently involved in this framework, ensuring Sweden’s role in the development of the broader BHC network.

Nordion Energi

Nordion Energi is the transmission system operator for the Swedish main gas grid, owning and operating the country’s biggest gas distribution network, and manages electricity network operations. Nordion Energi is responsible for accelerating the shift towards a more widespread use of renewable gases and is driven by the ambition of transitioning to 100% green energy. The Nordion Energi Group provides energy to more than 40,000 customers, including industrial enterprises, municipalities, energy companies, commercial properties, and private consumers.
